U-16 DRAGON BOAT CREW

This summer Canada is hosting the International Canoe Federation (ICF) 2011 World Club Crew Dragon Boat Championships in Toronto between July 21 and 24. The Collingwood Dragon Boat and Canoe Club is planning to send three Under-16 teams, namely, a boys team, a girls team and a mixed team to represent Collingwood and Canada at the World Championships.

The Club is looking for keen, fit and adventurous paddlers 16 years old or younger (born 1995 or later) to paddle at the World Championships. No experience is necessary but paddlers should be comfortable around water and able to swim. The Club will supply all the equipment necessary but if you have a properly fitting approved personal flotation device, we recommend you use it.

There will be two practices per week beginning in mid-May, which will increase to three once school is finished. Practice times will be scheduled based on convenience and will include both mornings and evenings. Morning practices will generally be from 6:30 to 8:00 a.m. and evening practices will generally be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m . We plan to attend at least one warm up dragon boat festival to introduce the paddlers to racing prior to the World Championships.

FEES:
$85; This does not include the cost of uniforms, accommodations or travel for the World Championships or other regattas.

Interested paddlers should contact us at info@collingwooddragonboats.ca or call 705-444-0549.
